Dr. Thekra Hasan, Section Head Drug Information at the Health Authority-Abu Dhabi (HAAD); the regulatory sector that regulates the healthcare facilities and professionals in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
Prior to joining HAAD, Thekra was the manager of the Pharmacy department of Al Rahba hospital a JCI accredited hospital; she has a extensive experience in the pharmacy operation field, initially as a Clinical Pharmacist and then as In-Patient Pharmacy Supervisor and a Medication Safety Officer. In addition, she was the chair of SEHA Medication Safety Committee for several years. One of the most prominent achievements during that period was her contribution in implementation and the improvement in the compliance with the medication reconciliation process requirements among all SEHA facilities. This successful project was presented at the 32nd International Society for Quality in Health Care Conference (ISQua’s ), which was held in Doha 2015.
Dr. Thekra received her B.Sc. in Pharmacy from Dubai Pharmacy College. In 2006, she received her Postgraduate Diploma in Drug Evaluation and Pharmaceutical Science from The University of Melbourne, Australia. After that, she received her Masters in Medical Science-Pharmacology and Applied Toxicology-from UAE University in 2010. In addition and in order to enhance her knowledge in clinical research field she received the diploma in Clinical Research, Vienna School of Clinical Research. She has some international publications under her name and several conference presentations in topics related to oxidative stress, acetaminophen toxicity, in addition to the clinical pharmacy and the mediation safety topics. Thekra was a recipient of the 2011 Abu Dhabi Medical Distinction Award for the “Allied Health” Category. Through working at Al Rahba hospital, she was the champion of the Medication Management and Use chapter of the JCIA. Where she led the team while setting up pharmacy service policies and standards, in addition to training and raising the awareness among all health care providers in all issues related to medication safety and the patient safety.
Currently, Thekra is a member of the National Pharmacovigilance Committee and The Health Authority of Abu Dhabi Advisory Drug Panel.
JoAnn is Division Director, Educational Services, at the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). Prior to joining ASHP, JoAnn was a director of pharmacy for a suburban Washington, D.C. health-system. In her current role responsibilities include planning and developing educational initiatives, including for national meetings, that foster professional growth and the advancement of pharmacy practice in ambulatory and acute care settings. JoAnn is the ACPE and ACCME continuing education administrator for ASHP. In 2015, she became a Certified Healthcare Continuing Professional Development Professional (CHCP) for demonstrating competence in the field of continuing education.
JoAnn received a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Northeastern University and a Master of Business Administration from Virginia Tech’s Pamplin School of Business. In addition to ASHP, she is a member of the American Society of Association Executives and the Alliance for Continuing Education in the Health Professions.

Ms. Hammoud has served as an international surveyor for Joint Commission International in 2014. Dr. Sohail Fitieh is currently working as Supply Chain Manager, Ambulatory Healthcare Services AHS central medical store, SEHA- Abu Dhabi. He has many years of pharmacy experience and business development for private pharmacy at large well known healthcare institutions in the Gulf region.
He has recently been awarded Doctor of Medicine (Ph. D) in Healthcare management from the Canadian European Academy for Training & Development.
He has been granted recently certificate of Project manager Expert PME. He obtained his Master degree in pharmacy leadership from the American Society of Health-service Pharmacy ASHP Foundation, MS PLA. Under going study to obtain Ph. D degree which may complete and certified end of 2016
He has an extensive experience in preparing, establishing and setting up standards for pharmacy services to obtain quality standards accreditation as per North American Standards such as JCIA, CCHSA or other Australian standards in different hospitals such as KFSH and RC Riyadh & Jeddah (May 2002) Saudi Arabia, the American Hospital Dubai, UAE (May 2003) . Dr. Sohail attended the International Medication Safety Network (IMSN) meeting in Brazil on September 2010 where UAE added as new member of IMSN and became permanent member.
In his various experience in KFSH & RC, Dr. Sohail was extensively involved in pharmacy improvement projects as the evaluation and selection of the new Pharmacy Automation Systems (PYXIS), establishing drug formulary and implementation of hospital information system (Cerner) etc…
In November 2005, Dr. Sohail had worked as a senior consultant with Inter Health Canada in planning, designing, operating and commissioning healthcare services and was involved in establishing the Trauma and Emergency Centre at Rashid Hospital Dubai, UAE and Royale Hayat Hospital (70 beds for Maternity, Children and Cosmo-Surge hospital) in November 2006.
He has received many awards during his years of experience, the last award in December 2011 as the best department at Mafraq hospital- SEHA for the outstanding achievement.
In 2004 Dr. Sohail received awards and recognition on being preceptor for pharmacy students in affiliation with Ajman University and in 2001 from King Saud University. Zayed Military Hospital, UAE
Since 2016, Mai Alqubaisi has served as a Quality Officer / Medication safety leader of zayed military hospital where she develops a vision of an ideal safe medication-use system for the organization. Proactively develop and lead implementation of error prevention strategies based on practice standards, literature review, medication safety tools, and analysis of the organization’s medication safety data.
Alqubaisi have received her Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) Degree from School of Pharmacy in the university college of London, (UCL), UK in 2007. In 2016 she was awarded a doctorate in Pharmacy from Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, Scotland, with a focus of behavioral determinants relating to medication error reporting by health professionals in the United Arab Emirates’ the research spans the fields of ‘Patient Safety’ and ‘Clinical Pharmacy’.
Alqubaisi began her career at Zayed military Hospital as pharmacist in outpatient pharmacy in 2007. Alqubaisi was quickly promoted to Director of Pharmacy in 2008 – 2012. Her accomplishments included overseeing the clinical practice and education of Pharmacist and other healthcare providers; Oversee processes to collect information on the organization’s medication errors and system failures to ensure that they are captured and barriers to reporting are addressed; leading the Medication management and use Committee with multi-disciplinary professions and ensuring compliance with Joint Commission International Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCIA) guidelines. Her professional interests in quality improvement methodologies shifted her career and she was appointed as a Quality and medication safety officer.

Dr. AlKhaldi is a Consultant Emergency and Disaster Medicine and EMS in SEHA-Abu Dhabi. Also, he is an executive manager for Emergency Departments standardization project across SEHA business entities in Abu Dhabi. Dr. AlKhaldi is an UAE Graduate from the Medical School of UAE University and board certified Emergence Medicine Physician from Rennes University-France. Dr. AlKhaldi completed 3 fellowships in BIDMC-affiliated with HARVARD medical school. The Disaster Medicine/Emergency Management fellowship in 2014 and International EMS/Pre-Hospital Care fellowship in 2015 and Crisis and Emergency leadership fellowship in 2016. He was involved in evaluating the medical response in the Federal and local level of disaster drills in Boston and Alaska. He worked as a section author on the new edition of Dr. Gregory R. Ciottone’s Disaster Medicine Book. Dr. AlKhaldi participated in many disaster drills and his extensive exposure to disaster medicine included unique opportunities such as training in extrication drills. His particular interests within the realm of disaster medicine include Mass Gathering Medicine, International EMS, and Disaster Preparedness. While at BIDMC, he was part of one of the first disaster response teams to deploy to the Philippines after the 2013 Typhoon and provided post-disaster medical care to many patients in hardest-hit areas.

Dr Sahar Abu Omar is a Healthcare executive with extensive experience in complex healthcare systems and settings for over 17 years. She has been working in the UAE public healthcare sector for over 15 years.

Previous experiences include contributing to establishing pharmacy and medication-related regulatory infrastructure for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in 2003, as a senior Pharmaceuticals Specialist at the Health Authority-Abu Dhabi (HAAD), a governmental body that regulates the healthcare facilities and professionals in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Prior to joining ASHP in September 2011, Dr. Abramowitz worked in hospitals and health-systems for 34 years. He served as Associate Hospital Director for Professional Services and Chief Pharmacy Officer at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and Professor at the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy. He also held prior positions as Director of Pharmacy and Associate Professor at the Medical College of Virginia and the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Abramowitz received a Bachelors Degree in Chemistry and Biology from Indiana University, a Bachelors Degree in Pharmacy from the University of Toledo, a Pharm.D. from the University of Michigan, and completed his residency at the University of Michigan Medical Center.
In addition to serving as Treasurer of ASHP from 2007-10 and as ASHP President in 1993-94, he chaired the Board of: the ASHP Research and Education Foundation, the Iowa Board of Pharmacy, and the Iowa Statewide Poison Control Center.
Dr. Abramowitz has actively combined practice, teaching, and research throughout his career. He has lectured and published extensively focusing on the effect that quality pharmacy care can have on improving outcomes of care and reducing costs, developing new care models, reducing adverse drug events, and expanding comprehensive pharmacy care to the ambulatory setting.
He was a recipient of the John W. Webb Lecture Award in 2000 and the Harvey A.K. Whitney Lecture Award in 2009, health-system pharmacy’s highest honor. In 1990, he received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Toledo College of Pharmacy, in 2010, the Alumni Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award from the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy, and in 2013 the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science from the University of Toledo. In 2015, he was recognized as one of Washington’s Trending Association Leaders by Bisnow.
Currently, Dr. Abramowitz serves on the Boards of the American Nurses Foundation, the Council for Pharmacy Practice Accreditation, and the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. He also serves on the Dean’s Advisory Council at the University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy, and is a Professor-Emeritus at the University of Iowa.
